Rooms and availability
1 Double bed
2 Single beds or 1 Double bed
was in middle of renovation but out room was very past its best ceilings damp decor very poor no shower
Proximity to Malton Town Centre
Told we were booked in for Bed and Continental Breakfast, but as there were no items available had to make do with tea/coffee and toast. Not impressed.
Close to town centre and amenities
The heating was over powering in every area of the hotel and could not be adjusted. Very much in need of a refurb throughout
The hotel was very cheap, however that was evident when we saw the room! We did not really come into too much contact with the staff but they were polite when we did. The room itself although the bed was satisfactorily comfortable, was not very well presented. There was damp on the walls in the bathrooms, the bathroom was dirty especially the floor and damp was also evident in the bedroom itself. The room smelt fusty and the carpets had stains all over them. In the bathroom the lino was torn as you walked in and I caught my toes several times which could have been dangerous. The room itself was cold and the area around the hotel and inside the hotel was noisy during the night. When we arrived there was scaffolding all around the hotel.
I recognise the Hotel is obviously going through a major roof change (and possibly a refurbishment). But the decor was old. The extractor fan was very dusty, hence it wasn't as efficient as it should be. The shower curtain over the bath left little space to turn without catching it. There were a couple of 2"- 3" burn marks in the carpet.
Saff pleasant and good value meals
unfortunately undergoing refurbishment and therefor not as good to view outside as it will be when complete
The actual room looked nothing like the picture on the website, the room in reality was very bland, mismatched decor and the shower curtain was absolutly disgusting. I wouldn't book this hotel again, the rooms need refurbishing, I felt I had regressed to 1970.
The decorations were very shabby and sad
The location, friendly staff.
Hotel room could do with being redecorated.
Our room was unexpectedly large and the four poster a surprise - pity it was so narrow though. The views from the large windows were lovely.
The hotel was very tired, carpets threadbare, dreadful paintwork; bathroom taps very dirty and toilet black; plastic containers everywhere to catch water
Room 30! Water dripping on the light in the bathroom which intern tripped all of the electric, the bath was filthy it was so bad we could not even use it. This hotel needs allot of money spending on it, all areas are in a shabby condition.
The night porter /reception lady was very friendly.
On arrival we found a filthy teaspoon which had stuck to the tray. The room we stayed in (22) was off a corridoor which was severely waterstained ceilings and walls and very smelly. The wallpaper was hanging off in the corridoor and in our room. For £65 per night one expects at the very least a shower - there was none in this room and none of the staff were capable of being helpful to move us to a room with a shower, and we were told we had to wait for management, but no one knew when 'they' would be there. We arrived early to spend time with family and kept popping back to find out if we could move to later be told that the hotel was now full. We eventually got a mixer head for our last morning having then spent 3 days being very smelly!
The only positive was the location
The Talbot Hotel is bar far the worst hotel I have stayed in. The hotel is very old and really needs complete renovation. The rooms were very old fashioned and the whole hotel smelt like an old peoples home. Scoffolding was all around the hotel and has been since at least May.
a very tired hotel requiring much updating. ok for one night
I was going to Dalby Forest and it was only 9 mile up the road.
I thought the Customer Service was very poor. The lad on reception looked like he didn't want to be there. We exchanged no pleasantries. There was no where to park due to the building work and scaffold. Very disappointed. Wont be staying here again or in any other hotel by this same chain.
